Washington D. C. and The Historic Triangle are once in a lifetime memories....a place to go back to time and time again. Lets see...I've been back about a dozen times..my wife over 25! It never gets old, something new or never scene each time.

This year we, Christian Legacy Tours,hosted Capital Christian Middle School of Sacramento and Summit Christian School of Orangevale. Over 130 people strong, we started in Jamestown, the first 'permanent' English settlement in the new World. We also visited Williamsburg and Yorktown, where the last significant Revolutionary War battle was fought.

From there we traveled to Richmond, Virginia to the site of Patrick Henry's "give me liberty, or give me death" speech and witnessed a rendition of that stirring meeting. Then on to Charlottesville and Thomas Jefferson's estate, Monticello. Down the hill, we stopped for lunch at Michie's Tavern, an 18th century landmark of the times.

The remainder of the trip was spent in D. C. We saw Mount Vernon, The Holocaust Museum, The Pentagon, The White House, all of the Memorials, Capitol Hill, and Arlington National Cemetery. A special treat was seeing the 'first run' musical, "Liberty Smith" at Ford's Theatre.

NCL's EPIC

The inaugural voyage of Norwegian Cruise Lines newest addition to their fleet is about to begin over the July 4th holiday. Appropriately, the EPIC will sail from New York after hosting a 'fireworks spectacular' on July 2. It will begin its Caribbean rounds with a 7 day roundtrip, Eastern Caribbean itinerary, from Miami, Florida on July 10, 2010. Incidentaly, I am booked on the July 24th Western Caribbean itinerary. I'll be able to check it out, firsthand!

HISTORICAL TOUR 2010 Part Three

From Charlottesville, VA., we went north to the Capitol in Washington D. C.. We stayed in Crystal City, which is a suburb of Alexandria, VA.. We visited all of the Monuments and Memorials. Especially liked the 'new' World War II and the FDR Memorials. Water features are magnificent.
Saw Capitol Hill through Representative Doris Matsui's office but were unable to get on the White House Tour. But we did pray for the President and our country at Lafayette Park. Another can't miss building is the Library of Congress. The paintings, murals, and architecture are stunning.
The group went to Arlington Memorial Cemetery and four of the students participated in a wreath laying at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I particularly enjoyed touring the 'now open' Lee Mansion and reading all of the narrative behind its history.
On our last day we went to the Pentagon (Dept. of Defense) and Fort McHenry where a battle in the War of 1812 inspired the witting of The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. Also the original site of the Flag, itself.
Besides the great the great history and architecture, the food and fellowship was great. We ate at Kyoto's in Williamsburg, Alfio's in Chevy Chase, MD., Armand's in D. C., and great breakfasts at the Crystal City Courtyard by Marriott. The students and parents were the best and teachers beyond belief. Wish you were there.

The front of the nickel has his face, the back, his estate. Who and what is it? Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd President, author of the Declaration of Independence, and founder of The University of Virginia. And on the back is Monticello, or 'little mountain', his 'living' estate. This was our final stop before heading north to Washington D. C.

HISTORIC TOUR 2010

This was the 2010 edition of the Historical Tour including students, parents and staff from Summit Christian middle schools. A total of 79 students and 46 adults comprised the tour. Beginning in Jamestown, VA, we visited both the 're-created' village and 'original site' of the first, permanent English settlement in North America. Established in 1607 by the Hudson Bay Company (of Great Britian), men on three ships settled at a site on the James River. They came to the New World to bring Christianity, seek riches(gold), and find the NorthWest Passage (sea route to the Orient).
Also in the area, known as the Historic Triangle, are Yorktown, site of the deciding victory of the Revolutionary War, and Williamsburg, the second colonial capital of Virginia and the 'hot bed' of our,'soon to be nation's leadership. We saw the actual grounds that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Peyton Randolph, etc...along with the likes of the Marque de Layfayette, Generals Cornwallis, and DeGrasse, trod or sailed.
Upon leaving the Williamsburg area, we stopped at St. John's Church in Richmond, VA. This was the place where Patrick Henry delivered his famous "give me liberty or give me death" speech. We saw a re-enactment of the 'unofficial'Virginia Burgesse's debate on independence from Great Britain.

CHRISTIAN LEGACY TOURS

Donna formed Christian Legacy Tours in May of 2005. Her primary business, and remains so today, is initiating 8th grade students to the beginnings of our great nation, the United States of America. March, 2010 will mark her 30th visit to the Historic Tringle, Washington D. C., and various other sites related to both our past and present. Taught from the Christian perspective (believe it or not, its in the original Virginia Company, England charter), this educational trip is the highlight for the school years of graduating high school seniors. The tour has been expanded over the years to include adults, churches, and affinity groups.This is an 'all inclusive' trip and completely customizable. Standard quote covers guide/teacher and trip coordinator. All meals, requested venues, admissions, lodging, air transportation and land by dedicated motorcoach come with the per person cost.
